Hi Members,
Has anyone who have had a grey water tank retro fitted had any problems with smell.
Due to get one fitted in a couple of weeks but have heard a Hepvo trap or similar would be needed to and if so where in line would it be fitted.

I have had one fitted and don't have a smell problem but I do empty it as soon as possible. BTI gave me a couple of packets of tablets to throw down the sink if a smell occurred but have not used them. I keep them in case caught somewhere I have to store the water for a couple of days.

Have found it great for stops in middle of towns etc and usually only small amount of washing up. Usually wait for a shower somewhere we can drain it. To hold several showers in it would be transferring weight to rear and could effect the balance of the van.

I have never had any smells in mine...

Look, to be a bit forensic about this: The smell comes from soap caking up in it and breeding a fungus. If you travel a half an hour with the tank half empty, it will shake up enough to leave very little or no soap scum.

A good glug of vinegar or something like that down it, and a good slosh around does it. Then also I leave it open to dry out when not in use.

Never had a problem since I invented this and had about the first one. Me thinks you might be worrying to much... heh he Cool

On the road Ranger....

Hi guys,

We have a grey water tank in our van and when waste water has been left in there for a period of a few days it can get a bit of an odour. This does not come up in the van as the waste pipework is plumbed in a manner to allow for an S bend type trap in the lines, you really only notice it when emptying the tank.

Normally we know when we are going to be in this situation (using the tank for a few days) so when it occurs, we drop a dissolvable tablet into the sink and empty it into the tank. Every grey water tank we supply comes with a packet of these:

More info: https://www.walex.com/product/elemonate/

We find that it works very well and is a great way to keep the tank clean and clear. On occasion we also connect a hose to the flush point on the rear of the tank and give it a good flush out as well.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Matt

OK,
Thanks for your replies Alan, Steve and Matt.
Matt now that I know there is an S bend in the fitment of the tank my mind is at rest...
Will see you on the 6th of December.

Cheers
