Matt, first post (!) as just starting to look for a family van and have spent some time researching the usual suspects so to speak! Very keen on BT, probably in 21 foot - could this particular van be modified with triple bunks? Or are we better off ordering new.... And secondly what is the ball weight?

We have a 2010 LR D4 (3.0 twin turbo) which we assume can handle the weight (3500 / 350, air suspension etc) despite most on this forum with LC diesels it seems,

cheers Chris

G'day Chris,

Welcome to the Bushtracker Owners Forum! In regards to your queries:

Very keen on BT, probably in 21 foot - could this particular van be modified with triple bunks? Or are we better off ordering new....

This one would not be able to be modified to triple bunks. However we could certainly be able to build one the same with triple bunks in that location.

And secondly what is the ball weight?

Ball weight when empty was 180kg on that particular van, however we recommend that when travelling you have a 10% ball loading (eg: 3200kg loaded, 320kg on the ball). This can easily be achieved as there is a large cargo storage area in the front of the van under the bed.

We have a 2010 LR D4 (3.0 twin turbo) which we assume can handle the weight (3500 / 350, air suspension etc) despite most on this forum with LC diesels it seems

Your vehicle will have no problem at all with that size van.

I hope helps, feel free to send me an e-mail on sales@bushtracker.com if you have any queries.

Cheers,

Matt

Hi Chris, If you have a look in the used caravans there is what looks like this style 21' van with triple bunks (no inside pics) for sale, 2012 model. On the D4 towing we have a 21' BT towed by the 2.7 D4, very stable and the air suspension works a treat.

Matt, what do you see as the relevant advantages and disadvantages of the two types of 21 foot family van shown on the forum and which in one case feature on the video....ie rear bunks across, combined shower and toilet versus rear bunks on side with separate toilet and shower; I guess the latter (separate facilities) is a major plus, and I'm guessing he downside might be less bench space but have you any other specific comments ? Cheers

Hello Munners,
Steven Gibbs here, Director, Bushtracker,

Matt is away on Holiday right now, so I am answering this.. Yrtou have one great advantage here, in that we are the Leaders in family layouts for the past 17 years. One Director raised four Children with his van over 13 years and I raised 3 with mine. The particular two layouts you are speaking of are only samples of many more Family Layout styles. You have more choices with Bushtracker than any other Manufacturer just because of our Family experience, and the layout does not affect the price.

Here are a couple of points to help you along:
First of all those two, are two of about four or five trends in layouts that work, with countless variations in each, and we Coach you on the possibilities for months. Once you are in the Production Schedule, we talk with you about your likes and dislikes and travel plans, and we put together a collection of layouts for you to consider. Then you can cut and paste and have a play, and we send them back and forth for a couple of months if need be, to get it right for you..

The second thing, is we cannot digress into personal layout likes and dislikes here on the Forum, with 100 Owners at any time in the Production Schedule the Forum would be hopelessly bogged down with personal deliberations and pros and cons. Please hold off your layout and design ideas until you are in the Production Schedule and we can give you some coaching on the pros and cons of each style of layout. Everyone will have their favourites, Matt has two young babies and the twin bunks on the side appeals to him. My favourite was three or four bunks wrapping around the combined ensuite just inside the door to the right. There are many more, but wait until you are in the Productions Schedule so you can be playing with all the cards in the deck, instead of guessing with a few...

Kind regards, stg....
