I have just opened this Topic, as quite a few of you have dogs and this might be an attractive place to put your Tips and Locations..

I have what, seven or eight? years travelling with LARGE dogs, and in a pinch on the way through you can use Showgrounds. They are always open to dogs and people travelling with livestock (horses for me) often have their dogs along. It is an unwriten law that dogs are OK at Showgrounds Camping...

Here is my VISCIOUS guard dog on duty....

Or maybe he is watching my horse training with keen interest.....

The other HUGE Tip on travel with dogs, is road side camping out of sight by learning how to recognize "Stock Routes" where dogs and camping is open even if you do not have any stock....

I think I have a Topic on this, recognizing Stock Routes, some are on maps, some have signs on them, some are little used by easy to recognize and they are all over the country.

Cheers, stg

Just a quicky. Class distintion,I feel on my easter break on an unintentional camp on a creek on private property (unfenced and beautiful spot) just south of Maroon Dam was the fact I had a BT was why i was not Kicked off the site as we spoke to a local up the road upon leaving, so there's a pun for you Steve.(a little more to the story but this is the basic gift of the gab). Very Happy Al.

Alan,
You just have to phone ahead and they will open up the Showgrounds to you. They charge for it, so it is a source of revenue for the Council.

I think you just have to do some planning ahead. Most Showgrounds I go to with horses, have Campers there with dogs already..

Also, the number one rule in roadside camping is to park in out of sight, Stock Routes and so on, per the Topics in this Category. In 20 years of doing this, I have not been shaken out of the rack and asked to move yet, not once.
