Landcruiser alloys on the van?

Hello, just new to the forum so pls forgive me if this has been raised before, I couldn’t find this in search. I am considering getting a second set of LC200 alloy rims to put on the 20’ BT so that all rims, including spares are the same. Are the 17� LC alloys adequate to replace the 16� steel wheels that come std on the van?

No. The +60 offset is wrong and they will hit the chassis rails, unless you use spacers and that creates a whole bunch of new things to worry about.

The easiest option is to get a set of 17" steel rims with zero offset for the van. They can be used as a "last resort" spare for the LC200. They will stick out a bit from the Cruiser but will definitely get you home.

You could also opt to have one OEM alloy rim for the Cruiser mounted as a spare on the van, ie, the spares on the van will be one for the Cruiser and one for the van.

I have had the spacers on my van since 2005
not a problem, because of wanting to have all
tyres and rims interchangeable as yourself.

Just check the legalities of spacers before jumping in.....

I know they are DEFINITELY illegal of motor vehicles, but not sure whether that also applies to trailers etc.

In the case of motor vehicles, they WILL render your vehicle as "unroadworthy" which, in turn, renders your comprehensive insurance as VOID. However, like I said, not sure that those rules/laws apply to towed vehicles.

Another thing to consider....a mate of mine who also has a BT (an older model than ours), has 6 stud wheels and the offset is definitely different to our 5 stud wheels. So, if we swapped hubs over, my wheels would have hit the inside of his wheel arches. I guess what I'm saying is that not all set-ups have the same offset.

I was going to offer to do some sort of swap, because he has a 5 stud Landcruiser, whilst I have a 8 stud Chevy....I'd love to have 8 stud wheels to match the truck, but Simplicity tell me the 12" brakes won't allow the stud pattern (8x 180) to be machined into those brakes without impeding on the drum. The older 8x 165 was okay.

The big downside to spacers is that your OCD will be exploding.

If you check the torque setting regularly on the wheel nuts, you then must check the torque settings on the spacer nuts.

Your OCD won’t accept anything less.

To do that, you have to take the wheel off, then of course, 500kms or so later, you must check the torque settings on the wheel nuts, then of course your OCD will nag you about the spacers nuts again.

And so the cycle is unending.

Nah, just hit the spacers' nuts with red Loctite and they'll never come loose....

To answer everyone's question on spacers,
Yes they are legal mine were put on at time of manufacture by BT.
As far as I know were supplied by Simplicity.
Roachie has hit the nail on the head (red loctite ) have not come
loose since putting on in '05, just do a visual check once yearly.
Flatchat give me a ring on 0419 748410 after 6pm. My spacers are being tacken off in a couple of weeks as changing vehicles so willing to sell them.
