Mold on board under the mattress

Hello,
interested to hear if there is a problem with mold under the mattress on a solid board bed base. I have seen on the net where this problem has occurred.
Is this a common problem and can a slated bed base be fitted?
We are looking to upgrade to a full caravan, but are concerned if this is a common problem.

Hi Charlie,
Never had mould or moisture on our flat wooden base at all.
However, there is a product called Air Circulation Mesh Mattress Underlay, as per the url’s below, that we have been using for several years with no issues of moisture. But we only installed it after a couple of years with the mattress on the original flat base and had no moisture issues prior to using it. Just installed it as a safety measure.
Cannot remember where we bought it, possible Clarke Rubber, but it is all woven nylon that is about 15mm high that sits under the mattress and allows air flow to circulate and is extremely light weight. We found you need to have it slightly larger than the mattress to allow for proper air flow to circulate.

Thanks for the info Dave..

We too have not had a problem in 13 years of owning our BT but we do always have one or more windows left open. Our previous camper trailer had a product called EMP underlay which sounds like what Dave has mentioned.
